WHAT IS ELECTRIC UNDER FLOOR HEATING?
The heating cable is installed in the floor directly under the floor covering (tiles, carpet or timber), or embedded in the concrete floor (in-slab). The heating temperature and operating times are controlled by the owner using a programmable thermostat.
Heating directly under the floor covering is more responsive (faster warm up) compared to in-slab heating which is a ‘heat storage’ system – slower to warm up and retains heat after the power is switched off. In slab heating is sometimes run on off-peak power, heating up over night and releasing heat during the day.
Under floor heating produces gentle radiant heat over the whole area of a room.
